Fellowship House of South Camden
Ten Reasons to Give To Fellowship House
One. LOCATION. Fellowship House of South Camden is at the center of one of the most troubled neighborhoods in one of the most troubled cities in America.
Two. PURPOSE. The guiding purpose of Fellowship House is to shine the light of God's love in Christ into one of the nation's darkest places. The deepest problems here are moral and spiritual. God's power alone can provide enduring help.
Three. COMPASSION. Fellowship House has had an unusually close relationship with its neighborhood for forty years, meeting many different needs in many different ways, for residents and homeless alike.
Four. NETWORKING. Fellowship House unites the suburbs' resources with city needs. Regionalization is crucial for Camden. Many persons and organizations work together to serve the neighborhood, using Fellowship House as the channel.
Five. STAFF. Fellowship House has a four person full-time staff, the minimum possible for effective service. There is the Executive Director, the Secretary/Receptionist, the Director of Programs, and the Substance Abuse Counselor.
Six. FAMILY FOCUS. The primary focus is to maintain and strengthen functioning families, with educational and recreational programs for children, ("Peace Clubs"), Bible study for adults, and counseling and group therapy for addicted parents and singles.
Seven. ADDICTION RECOVERY. Fellowship House has one of the most active recovery programs in Camden, working with the Addictions Victorious network. Personal counseling, group therapies and referrals to long-range treatment centers comprise the recovery services.
Eight. MENTORING. Students from suburban schools, through service club organizations, come after school to help inner-city children with their school homework, providing uplifting experiences for students and children alike.
Nine. CLOTHING AND FOOD. Fellowship House is a major center for clothing and food collection and distribution, reaching out to the entire city. These services are especially vital to the many homeless in the neighborhood, and to poverty-stricken residents.
Ten. SUMMER CAMPS. Every summer, children and families are given opportunities to leave city streets for a week of camping, with one camp in the Poconos and another at the Jersey shore, a much appreciated and needed opportunity.
Fellowship House is an oasis of compassion in a desert of desperate need
